Artist Spotlight | Jo Want

For each Crybaby Subscription Box, it is very important to us to highlight the makers and movers that made this box happen (the box has officially sold out!) The purpose of this box is to spread support and love while also supporting creatives and their endeavors. These are their stories.

Jo Want of Hello Sunshine has been a Crybaby from the beginning. She first stumbled across the club through Kayley Mills' artwork and became hooked.

For a long time in her life, it was very important to Jo to put on a smiling face and to hide her emotions whenever she was sad. However, her pent up emotions eventually came out and she broke.

"Don’t get me wrong happiness and a genuine smile is still VERY important to me but it’s more important to embrace all of your emotions - the good and the bad," Jo said. "Being brave and sharing your feelings with others can be liberating, not only will you find help you may also realise there are many others in the same boat as you."

Jo says that she has learned this and has become better at embracing and sharing her emotions and feels like she's closer to the people around her as a result.

In her creative pursuits at Hello Sunshine, Jo has created anything from brooches to clocks to cards. For her Crybaby Card, she was by her grandparent's old camper van that she would take on road trips with them.

"The memories I have coupled with my deep rooted love of all VW Campervans are at the soul of my new work and full of emotion (happy and sad, as I miss my Grandparents dearly)," Jo said.

She is continuing this van series in her own shop, a project she has titled Project Van and she simply can't wait to share all of her new creations with you.
