Artist Spotlight | Nicole Monjeau

For each Crybaby Subscription Box, we think that it’s very important to highlight the makers and the movers that made each box happen. The purpose of the box is to spread support and love while also supporting creatives and their endeavors. (There are a few boxes left and they will be available again when we open up the shop for the new year!) These are their stories.

When Nicole first approached me about contributing to our subscription boxes, I was beyond excited. Her hand embroidery work is beyond stunning and I couldn't wait to share her talent with others.

Nicole has been a crybaby from the very beginning, agreeing with the message that an individual should not be afraid to express their own emotions.

"It's unfortunate that there is such a stigma attached to being emotional," Nicole said. "Women are told that they're hysterical and unreasonable if they're emotional, and men are told that they are weak."

Nicole, like many of us, still struggles with the fact that it's still totally normal and acceptable to cry, even if it makes others uncomfortable.

Nicole wanted to reflect this feeling into her work.

Due to the fact that making 50 hand-made embroidered works is a ridiculous thing to ask someone to do, Nicole came up with the lovely idea to create a one-of-a-kind embroidery and then put that pattern onto a postcard and button for our crybabies.

Nicole especially designed this with her crybabies in mind.

"I love that she shows her tough side by being unafraid to show off her body hair, as well as her tender side, by being unafraid to cry," Nicole said.

Check out Nicole's unique works at her shop. She plans on continuing to "embroider away!"
