Artist Spotlight | Lace & Whimsy

Written by: Kaitlyn

For each Crybaby Subscription Box, we think that it’s important to highlight the makers and the movers that made each box happen. This is last box before the end of the year, and you can pick your own up in the shop now! The purpose of the box is to spread support and love while also supporting creatives and their endeavors. These are their stories.

Kathy Clark has been a crybaby from the beginning. She has always been a huge supporter and we adore collaborating with her. Working with her and her brand, Lace & Whimsy on our  subscription box was an absolute pleasure.

When talking to Kathy, it's clear that she holds the same beliefs that we do regarding emotions.

"Society seems to want to police and invalidate showing emotion, particularly in women," Kathy said. "Crying is not a sign of weakness."

Kathy has become more comfortable with sharing her emotions over the years and finds it to be not only comforting, but cathartic as well.

"It's so important to be comfortable displaying emotion, regardless of gender," Kathy said. "Being in touch with your emotions and unashamed of feeling those feelings is a sign of power, not weakness."

For our subscription box, Kathy created a "self-portrait" of herself and ended up with a print that reads "Delicate Fucking Flower."

"Flowers are lovely and can bring joy, but also need plenty of water, sunlight, and care. And some have thorns, so don't mess with them," Kathy said.

Since the print's release, Kathy has created a whole collection around it that includes an enamel pin!

In the future, Kathy hopes to continue to inspire women in their daily lives. She is currently expanding her brand from stickers and stationary to a lifestyle brand.
